Iowa is not generally thought of as being a maple syrup producing state, but it does have a few commercial producers in the northeastern part of the state. Iowa Sugar maple growing areasSugar maples (see map at right) grow along the eastern edge of the state. There are other varieties of maples that grow well and produce syrup in Iowa besides the sugar maple, there are also the black maplesilver maple  or boxelder grow throughout much of the state and can produce maple syrup.
